All About Altoona

The City of Altoona is located just minutes from Eau Claire. Altoona offers many amenities due to its close proximity Eau Claire and also enjoys the benefits of living in a small town.  Altoona has also been named one of the top five fastest growing city in Wisconsin per the U.S. Census Bureau.

Altoona is known as the "Cinder City" from it’s start as a railway terminal. When the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway opened up a new terminal on land that would eventually become the City of Altoona, the railroad used steam engines to power its locomotives.  The steam engines were powered by burning coal or wood, resulting in cinders. 

There’s so much to do in Altoona! Altoona is well known for its focus on outdoor recreation including fishing and biking. Annual events like the Rock'n on the River and Kickin' It Country Concert Series, River Prairie Festival, and the Ginormous Pumpkin Festival are a great time both residents and visitors.
